Big fish : A novel of Mythic Proportions (Daniel Wallace)
The novel of Daniel Wallace Big Fish (1998) is a story of Edward Bloom, a notorious storyteller and joker, that is unable to tell the truth and he expresses any of his experience with such an embellishment they reach fantastic dimensions. His son describes him as "a Santa Claus cross-bred with Easter bunny - they are both so funny as well as so unreal". What unravels itself in front of the readers as an unbelievable story with comic elements is a result of a storytelling mastership of Wallace who parodies the antic myths. And first of all he parodies the myth that all southern men are invincible in storytelling. The Big Fish is a cheerful book about a serious topic; from the background the main topic of the father - son relationship is coming back, a relationship that is renewed by the herald of the fathers death.
