David Grossman

David Grossman

Israeli writer and journalist, he was born and he lives in Jerusalem. He writes novels and books for children, together with Amos Oz and A. B. Yehoshua he is considered one of the three most important Israeli contemporary writers. His books were translated into more than 30 languages and were awarded many literary prices. He is known for criticizing Israel's policy towards Palestine. For efforts he put into the pacemaking process and understanding he was awarded the prise of Mount Sion. His book The Yellow Wind reflecting his factwise study of everyday life of Palestinians in Gaza, met a lot of understanding in the world, but tough criticism at home. His son Uri, who was the reason why he started to write the book to the end of the land, was fighting in Lebanon war. Grossman together with Oz and Yehoshua organized a press conference in 2006, where they were trying to negotiate with the Israel's government an agreement about the end of bombarding. Two days later Uri died in the war in Lebanon. After his death Grossman did not want to finish the writing of the book, but Amos Oz persuaded him to do so.
In July 2011 his last book Falling Out of Time was published. It is very personal and talks about the pain of parents, that lost their child.
